According to his ministry website, www.livinginchrist.org , he and his wife, Dini, were married in 1966, and have three adult children and eleven grandchildren. Bob graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1973 with the Master of Theology degree.
Bob Hoekstra’s involvement with the Calvary Chapels began in 1971, when he and his wife Dini visited Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa on a Sunday evening. They were deeply touched by the life-giving teaching of the word of God, the simple worship “in Spirit and in truth”, and the profound expressions of the love of the Lord among the saints.
Upon returning to Dallas, they regularly obtained Pastor Chuck Smith’s teaching tapes and eventually became daily listeners of the Word for Today on the radio.
Since 1993, Bob has been teaching at Calvary Chapel and other church fellowships across the country and overseas (including, Seminars, Pastors’ Conferences, Church Services, Leadership Conferences, Retreats, and Schools of Evangelism/Ministry).
He has taught numerous classes at Calvary Chapel Bible College (both at its former location in Twin Peaks, CA and its current location in Murrieta Hot Springs, CA) as well as at the extension campuses of Costa Mesa, Vista, San Diego, El Cajon, and others.
Bob’s teaching generally highlights such subjects as Counseling God’s Way, Family God’s Way ,Growing in the Grace of God ,The Church: How Jesus Builds It ,Contending for the Faith ,Promise Believers ,The Sufficiency of Christ and His Word ,The Psychologizing of the Faith , and related themes.
The Living in Christ Radio Program featuring these studies is heard on several stations across the country including nationally on CRN — the Calvary Radio Network (Saturdays at 11:00 AM PST).
The purpose of LICM could be stated most concisely as a ministry of “Proclaiming Christ to Christians.”
The ministry website say: “In order to grow in maturity and wholeness and fruitfulness and Christlikeness, we must be feeding on the truth from God’s word about the Lord Jesus Christ, who lives in us as our hope of glory. Another way to express our purpose is that we are involved in pointing God’s people to the Lord and His word.”
The website says : “This is done primarily through Bible study seminars including: Counseling God’s Way, Growing in the Grace of God, The Church: How Jesus Builds It, Promise Believers, Contending for the Faith, and related themes.”
It adds: “Our messages also go out through Church Services, Pastors’ Conferences, Retreats, Bible Colleges, Schools of Ministry, overseas ministry trips, through audio and video studies and through this website. Additional teaching themes commonly deal with The Sufficiency of Christ and His Word, The Psychologizing of the Faith, The Ability of God’s Word, and Knowing God. A newly developing avenue of ministry is writing.”
A compact paperback entitled Psychologizing the Faith has been published by The Word For Today. Another book entitled How to Counsel God’s Way has recently been reprinted and made available in English and German. Other books and writing projects will be following soon as the Lord allows.
In a message posted to the LICM website, the ministry says: “The Hoekstra family and all of us at Living in Christ Ministries and International Prison Ministry would like to thank all of you who stood with us in prayer these last two years during Pastor Bob’s illness.
“It is with great sadness, but with great rejoicing that we announce that our beloved Pastor and friend has gone home to be with the Lord on December 20th. Bob’s unwavering faith, and ministering heart were used by the Lord to bear much fruit to the very end of his life here on earth.
“We rejoice that he is now continuing his ministry with the Lord in heaven, while we will continue his ministry here on earth through Living in Christ and International Prison Ministries. To God be the glory – great things He has done!”
